On Long Range Percolation With Heavy Tails

چکیده
Consider independent long range percolation on Z2, where horizontal and vertical edges of length n are open with probability pn. We show that if lim supn→∞ pn > 0, then there exists an integer N such that PN (0 ↔ ∞) > 0, where PN is the truncated measure obtained by taking pN,n = pn for n ≤ N and pN,n = 0 for all n > N .

Heavy tails in last-passage percolation
We consider last-passage percolation models in two dimensions, in which the underlying weight distribution has a heavy tail of index α < 2. We prove scaling laws and asymptotic distributions, both for the passage times and for the shape of optimal paths; these are expressed in terms of a family (indexed by α) of “continuous last-passage percolation” models in the unit square. In the extreme cas...
متن کاملLong Range Dependence in Heavy Tailed Stochastic Processes
The notion of long range dependence has traditionally been deened through a slow decay of correlations. This approach may be completely inappropriate in the case of a stochastic process with heavy tails. Yet long memory has been reported to be found in various elds where heavy tails are a standard feature of the commonly used stochastic models. Financial and communications networks data are amo...
متن کاملA Single Channel on - off Communication Model
1.1 INTRODUCTION There now exist several large teletraac data sets exhibiting non-standard features incompatible with classical assumtions of short range dependence and rapidly decreasing tails. For instance, it is worth exploring the variety of data catalogued at the ITA web site www.acm.org/sigcomm/ITA/. These data sets exhibit the phenomena of heavy-tailed marginal distributions and long ran...
متن کاملHeavy Traffic Methods in Wireless Systems: towards Modeling Heavy Tails and Long Range Dependence
Heavy traffic models for wireless queueing systems under short range dependence and light tail assumptions on the data traffic have been studied recently. We outline one such model considered by Buche and Kushner [7]. At the same time, similarly to what happened for wireline networks, the emergence of high capacity applications (multimedia, gaming) and inherent mechanisms (multi-access interfer...
متن کاملVariable Heavy Tailed Durations in Internet Traffic, Part I: Understanding Heavy Tails
This paper is part of a larger paper that studies tails of the duration distribution of Internet data flows, and their “heaviness”. Data analysis motivates the concepts of moderate, far and extreme tails for understanding the richness of information available in the data. The analysis also motivates a notion of “variable tail index”, which leads to a generalization of existing theory for heavy ...
